World Smile Day: October 5th

What’s better than having a random stranger smile, and say “Hello”?

Nothing.

Well, sometimes for me it’s exactly what I need to snap me out of a funk!

This Friday, October 5th marks the annual  ”World Smile Day”, and what better way than to celebrate it in Worcester, the hometown of Harvey Ball, the creator of the “smiley face”.

Here’s what the City has planned:

Join the City of Worcester in celebrating World Smile Day® 2012, on Friday, October 5thon Worcester City Hall Plaza, 455 Main Street, Worcester. World Smile Day is held annually the first Friday of October to recognize Worcester native Harvey Ball’s iconic creation by doing acts of kindness and celebrating the day in a big way. Festivities willbegin at 11 a.m. and conclude by 1 p.m.  The Shepard Hill Regional High School Marching Band will open the ceremony with a performance followed by the Worcester Seven Hills Charter School Chorus singing  several Smiley, WSD, and Worcester related songs.  Charles Ball, Managing Director of the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation and son of Smiley’s creator Harvey Ball, will delivery a short keynote message about World Smile Day®.  We will then be entertained by performers (clowns, jugglers, and the Ring Master) from the Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus when our biggest guests of the day will arrive for lunch – the elephants of Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus. Admission is FREE and open to the public. Don’t forget to bring your smile!
